THERAPY ON THE HOOF

Welcome to Therapy on the Hoof

Hippotherapy and therapeutic riding both use the horse to facilitate in therapy for a number of disabilities.

Hippotherapy specifically promotes the use of the movement of the horse as a treatment strategy in physical, occupational and speech-language therapy sessions for people living with disabilities. Hippotherapy has been shown to improve muscle tone, balance, posture, coordination, motor development as well as emotional well-being.

Equine therapeutic riding for the disabled is recognized as one of the more progressive forms of therapy. The ability to control a horse as well as one's own body inspires self-confidence, responsibility and teamwork. Best of all, it is a thoroughly enjoyable experience, which creates a special relationship between rider and horse and promotes personal challenges.
